Karl was born and raised in Warwick RI. He graduated from University of Rhode Island with a major in Biology. He received his Masters in Education from Boston State.
For several years he taught at the High School level in RI and MA. Being a teacher was very important to him. Later he taught adult ed classes at the North Shore Community College
During his summers off from teaching, he was a carpenter. He credits his father and Swedish uncles with sharing with him their great knowledge, skills and expertise in all aspects of the building trade.
He left teaching to start K.A.Johnson Builders.
For over 50 years he specialized in remodeling homes. Living in Marblehead, MA gave him the opportunity to work on many old and historic houses. He was passionate about his work.
He was a lifelong fitness enthusiast. He and his wife Beth had 2 successful health clubs, Energy Works and Energy Within for 40 years. Karl mentored many people throughout his lifetime. He was a member of Army Reserves, gourmet cook, dahlia whisperer and wonderful story teller. He served on 2 town boards, Marblehead Municipal Light Department and Marblehead Planning Board.
